What this site is

MumbaiWaterLevel.com is an independent community project that tracks the water storage of Mumbai's seven supply lakes daily. Every morning around 6 AM, the BMC Hydraulic Engineer's Department (based out of the Bhandup Complex) publishes a daily lake level report. We take that raw data and turn it into the dashboard you see here.

The seven lakes — Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi — are the lifeblood of the city. We track their individual levels, total storage, and overall rainfall to help you understand exactly where Mumbai stands before and after every monsoon.

Why it exists

Mumbaikars deserve a quick, clear answer to a simple question: “how much water is left?” Currently, finding that out means digging through PDFs or relying on sporadic news articles. We built this to give everyone a single, fast, and easy-to-read dashboard that works perfectly on your phone while you're commuting.

How the numbers work

• Total Capacity: The maximum combined storage of all 7 lakes is 14,47,363 Million Litres (ML).
• Percentage Full: The current total stored water divided by the total capacity.
• Day-on-Day Change: How much the storage went up (from rain) or down (from supply and evaporation) compared to yesterday.
• Days of Water Left: A rough estimate based on the current storage divided by Mumbai's average daily demand of ~3,950 MLD.

What this site is not

We are not affiliated with the BMC or the MCGM. This is an independent project. While our data comes directly from BMC reports, official announcements regarding water cuts, restrictions, or supply schedules will always come from the BMC officially.
