About Upper Vaitarna Dam
Upper Vaitarna sits at 603m above sea level near Trimbakeshwar in Nashik — the highest reservoir in the supply network. Built in 1973, it doesn't pipe water directly to Mumbai. Instead it discharges through tunnels into the Bhatsa basin and rides gravity the rest of the way. Receives some of Maharashtra's heaviest monsoon rain, often exceeding 4,000mm annually.
