About Vihar Lake

Vihar Lake was Mumbai's first piped water source, built in 1860 before the BMC existed. It sits entirely inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park and produces roughly 2% of supply through a dedicated 90 MLD treatment plant. The lake hosts an estimated 35–40 mugger crocodiles — one practical reason why the perimeter is strictly off-limits to the public.
