About Modak Sagar Dam

Named after N.V. Modak, the BMC engineer who designed much of Mumbai's early water and drainage infrastructure. Completed in 1957 at the lowest point of the Vaitarna cascade, it sits downstream of both Upper and Middle Vaitarna — meaning it catches regulated releases from both. Holds 128,925 ML and contributes close to 9% of the city's supply.
