About Tansa Dam

Built in 1892 during British rule, Tansa is the oldest dam in Mumbai's supply chain and still delivers 10% of the city's daily water. The masonry gravity structure in Shahapur, Thane has been reinforced twice since independence. Its 320 sq km wildlife sanctuary — home to leopards and over 200 bird species — acts as a natural filtration zone around the reservoir.
