About Bhatsa Dam

Almost half of Mumbai's daily water comes from this single earthfill dam in Shahapur, Thane. Built in 1983 on the Bhatsa river, it holds 717,037 ML at full capacity — the largest of the seven by a wide margin. Water travels over 100 km through aqueducts and tunnels to the Bhandup plant, one of the world's largest at 2,025 MLD.
